Tap water varies from region to region with its source and distribution conditions. The following parameters determine your treatment needs.
TDS (total dissolved solids)
The sum of minerals and salts in water, expressed in mg/L or ppm. In Turkish mains supplies it generally ranges from 150 to 600 ppm. TDS alone does not show whether water is safe, but it is a key indicator for membrane selection.
Hardness
The amount of calcium and magnesium, measured in French degrees (°f). Water above 30 °f is regarded as hard and causes limescale in kettles, boilers and washing machines. The solution for hardness is ion-exchange softeners.
Chlorine
Used for disinfection in the network; it gives taste and odour. An activated carbon filter removes chlorine's taste and smell.
Iron and manganese
Found especially in well water; they cause yellow-brown stains. They are removed by oxidation and sand filtration.
Nitrate
It can come from agricultural activity. The regulation defines an upper limit for water intended for human consumption; with high nitrate, reverse osmosis or ion exchange is needed.
What should I do?
- Check the analysis report in your water bill or from your municipality.
- If there is none, ask us for a free on-site TDS and hardness measurement.
- We then select the right system for your needs together.
